lizardbot sets up electronic invoicing (e-CF) under the Dominican Republic's tax authority, the DGII, for local businesses and US companies operating in the DR. We help you choose between the DGII's free invoicing tool and a certified provider, configure your data, migrate records, train your team and connect invoicing to your sales and inventory, in English or Spanish.
What e-CF is and who it applies to
The e-CF (comprobante fiscal electrónico) is the electronic version of the NCF-numbered tax receipts that Dominican businesses have issued for years. Instead of printing an invoice with an authorized sequence number, your system creates a digitally signed electronic document, sends it to the DGII (Dirección General de Impuestos Internos) and receives an accepted or rejected response. Your customer gets a printed or digital version with a verification code.
Law 32-23 on electronic invoicing requires taxpayers to adopt e-CF gradually, in groups and on deadlines set by the DGII. Because the schedule and requirements can be updated, we recommend confirming with the DGII, or with your local accountant, when your company is required to comply. We help you get ready early, without a last-minute scramble.
Why US companies in the DR work with us
If your company is based in the United States and operates a branch, subsidiary or sales operation in the Dominican Republic, e-invoicing is one more local requirement your team has to understand. We work in English and Spanish, with companies in both countries: lizardbot Inc in the United States and lizardbot SRL in the Dominican Republic. We can explain the DGII process to your headquarters in English while working on the ground in Spanish with your local staff and accountant.
What our implementation includes
- Choosing the system: we walk you through the options and recommend the one that fits your volume and operations.
- Setup and migration: tax details, products, services, customers, taxes such as ITBIS (the Dominican VAT) and the receipt types you will issue.
- Sales and inventory integration: each sale generates its e-CF without retyping, and stock updates automatically.
- Training: your team learns to invoice, issue credit notes and handle common rejections.
- Follow-up: we stay close during the first weeks of real use.
DGII free invoicing tool or a certified provider
The DGII offers a free invoicing tool (Facturador Gratuito) aimed at taxpayers with a low invoicing volume. It can be a good starting point if you issue few invoices and do not need to connect it to other systems.
With higher volume, a point of sale or an online store, or when invoices must be issued automatically from your own system, the usual route is a DGII-certified e-invoicing service provider, or your own system going through the DGII certification process as an electronic issuer. That route also requires a digital signature certificate from an authorized entity.
The DGII sets and may change the requirements for each option, so we review the current rules with you before deciding.
How we work and what you get
We follow our five stages: Discovery (how you invoice today, your volume and systems; you get scope and a timeline), Design (where the sale starts, how the e-CF is generated, what happens on a rejection), Development (setup and integrations, with demos of each milestone), Security and QA (testing with real cases and protecting certificates and tax data) and Launch (go-live, training and ongoing support).
- Working e-invoicing connected to your sales and inventory.
- A trained team and a short day-to-day guide.
- Source code and full ownership of any integration we build, using Node, Python, React or Next.js as the case requires.
- Milestone payments and revisions included.
Common e-invoicing mistakes
- Waiting until the deadline: setup, testing and training take time.
- Choosing on price alone: a cheap tool that forces staff to type every sale twice ends up costing more.
- Migrating messy data: customers with mistyped RNC tax IDs or duplicate products cause rejections.
- Skipping training: most first-week problems are about usage, not technology.

Frequently asked questions
What is an e-CF in the Dominican Republic?
An e-CF is an electronic tax receipt, the digital version of the NCF-numbered receipts used in the Dominican Republic. It is created as a digitally signed electronic document, sent to the DGII for validation, and the customer receives a printed or digital version with a code to verify it.
When does my company have to start e-invoicing?
Law 32-23 sets a gradual rollout by groups of taxpayers, with deadlines defined by the DGII. Since the schedule can be updated, the safest step is to confirm your case directly with the DGII or your local accountant. We help you prepare well ahead of time.
Can a US company use the DGII free invoicing tool?
The free tool is designed for taxpayers with low invoicing volume, and eligibility is set by the DGII. Companies with higher volume or that need invoices issued automatically from their sales systems usually work with a certified provider. We review the current rules and your numbers with you.
Can you work with our team in English?
Yes. We work in English and Spanish, with companies in the United States and the Dominican Republic. We can report to your US headquarters in English and work in Spanish with your local staff and accountant.
Can e-invoicing connect to our inventory and sales?
Yes. That is a core part of our work: each sale generates its electronic receipt and updates inventory, so nobody has to enter the same data twice. We also connect it to your point of sale or online store when needed.
How much does an e-invoicing setup cost?
It depends on the system you choose and how many integrations you need. Tell us how you invoice today and within 24 hours we send a no-commitment estimate, with milestone payments. If you choose a certified provider, their fees are paid to them separately.
